General Info/ Access
The theatre is situated in the area of “Gazi” just below Technopolis of Athens Municipality on Pireos road. The Gazi area was named after the Athens gaslight factory founded by a French Company in 1857. This place was selected for the construction of this industry due to the importance of its central location at the top of Athens’s “urban triangle”. According to the Kleanthi-Saoumpert proposal of 1833, the Kekropos square was to be built here. Gazi is a classic example of the modernisation of Athens with clubs, restaurants and cultural spaces beginning to appear in the early 90’s and continuing through the Olympic Games in 2004 until today throughout the historical center of the city.
Occupying 1.147 square meters, the auditorium has a capacity of up to 700 seats so it can host small yet grand cultural or artistic events. It is, in fact, a multi – purpose cultural venue with a post-modern aesthetic, where activities from all the artistic spheres (theater - cinema - music- visual art exhibitions - literature) are possible. Prior to its conversion into a theater it used to be a timber factory.
